Nobody is denying that the open mic/mike is a valid piece of slang. He's not asking us to call it an open microphonic device night. It's just about spelling. And if you've tried to spell 'I miced/ micced/ mic'ed/ mic'd her up before the show' you'll know it's all kinds of wrong.

Not sure it deserves quite that much keyboard time however.

Personally I think it should just be irregular . As in "I was very poorly miked up by the engineer at the open mic"

Sorted in less than 100 words - and that means more time for tea and biscuits!
